Clifford Furniture collection

admin

Clifford Furnitureis a youthful designer who isn’t afraid to experiment. He started in design by working with wood at the young age of 15, and hasn’t looked back since. This sparked his interest in working with as many of native species of wood as possible. Whilst learning about the working properties of wood he became interested in furniture making. With a relatively small number of designs under his belt, Clifford still has to prove himself – but his beginnings are definitely promising.

Look at the Conversation Seating above. There is nothing better than having an in-depth conversation that piques your interest and stimulates your mind, and Clifford pounces on this idea with gusto. The two chairs are joined near the base, facing each other, at a comfortable distance for either couples or strangers to make eye contact and have a deep discussion.

Below is Clifford’s Rocket Table. It features a retro-modern design that is a bit space-agey – hence the name Rocket Table. We love its mix of wood and glass, and the texture in the stripes that circle around the base. This would look wonderful paired with a low platform white leather sofa.

Clifford’s designs use simple lines and show a willingness to experiment with material and style. He is still finding his footing as a designer, and we look forward to seeing what he has in store for us in the future.

Stool by Tim Mackerodt

admin

Designer Tim Mackerodt of Germany will show his lamp and stool made of folded concrete at DMY International Design Festival in Berlin next month. Called FALT.series, the objects are made from thin sheets of fibre-reinforced concrete that’s rolled out and formed over moulds.

Mackerodt completed the project while studying at Kunsthochschule Kassel in Germany and will exhibit alongside fellow students at DMY Berlin.

In order to produce FALT.lamp and FALT.stool, fiber-reinforced concrete from the company g.tecz is rolled out and manually folded on flexible molds. Thin walled objects of the FALT.series produce shapes and surfaces not replicable via conventional concrete casting methods. The lampshade of FALT.lamp has a material thickness of only 2.7 mm and therefore weights less than 1.400 grams.

In contrast, FALT.stool shows the structural strength of the folded concrete. All legs are only held in place by a layer of 5 mm fiber-reinforced concrete. The technique of folding concrete opens a new field for the application of high performance concrete in design.

FALT.series will be exhibited at Material Vision 2011 at the stand of G.tecz (Hall 4.1 L32) and can be viewed at the DMY 2011 together with other students from Kunsthochschule Kassel at “Liebling, lass uns nach Kassel fahren”.

Tim Mackerodt was born in 1984 in Kassel. Worked for 12 month in South Africa. Finished BA in International Business Studies in 2008 and spend six month at the Düsseldorf office of DDB group Germany. Enrolled for product design at Kunsthochschule Kassel since 2009.

Towel warmer or art

admin

Towel warmers sure have found their place in contemporary homes. At initial time, many people considered this bathroom accessory as an expensive item. But owing to the benefits that can be derived from it, many families have started using it despite its price. The traditional image you may picture when you think of a towel warmer has gone through a huge transformation and today they are available in an endless number of styles, some rather exquisite like a piece of art.

The Boz Guitar Towel Warmer by Wesaunard makes it more than clear that you can have a functional piece of art in your bathroom! Made in a two-toned gold and chrome finish, Wesaunard says that their designers created this piece, inspired by objects of affection being women, wine and great music with the goal of bringing zest and luster into any bathroom.

Maybe you’re under the assumption that towel warmers are only for spas but this is not the case, you can have one in your bathroom too. Once you have one, you won’t believe you managed to shower your whole life without it! There are basically two types of warmers being electric and hydronic.

Electric – These have a filament inside as well as oil, you plug them into an outlet and as the temperature of the oil rises, the racks get warm and so do the towels. They use low power, are energy-efficient and completely safe, some even have an automatic shutoff feature.

Hydronic – Hot water is used to heat the rails in these types of towel warmers. They connect to the hot water system in your home and then a pump pushes hot water through the rails to heat the towels. Towel warmers are one of those luxuries that everyone deserves but few think about actually purchasing.

Chair by Benjamin Hubert for Devorm

admin

London designer Benjamin Hubert launched the chair with a pressed-felt shell for Dutch brand Devorm at Ventura Lambrate in Milan last month. Called Pod, the chair has a steam-bent ash frame while the seat is pressed in one piece from felt made of recycled plastic bottles. The product comes flat-packed and the shells stack inside each other for transportation. Cushions are made of recycled foam with fabric covers in contrasting colours.

The ‘Pod’ is a large privacy chair for breakout areas in offices or residential projects. Pod is an environmental alternative to large upholstered furniture. Most upholstery is difficult to recycle as it’s a fixed combination of timber, glue, foam and textile. Pod tackles this by replacing the large upholstery with moulded felt created from recycled PET bottles. In addition the entire design is knock down with the shells stacking for minimum carbon footprint in transportation and storage.

The chair’s ergonomics allow the user to work comfortably whilst feeling relaxed and separated from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It creates a room-in-room experience with the perimeter of the chair around the user’s head.

The shell of the chair is the largest form ever produced utilising pressed PET felt technology. This felt allows a distinctive aesthetic as well as offering sound-dampening properties to increase the sensation of privacy with acoustic performance.

Thanks to its strict lines, color design and hidden features, furniture by De Vorm is surprising, contemporary and timeless. The central aims of our design are comfort, quality and permanence.

However, what occupies our minds the most, is the added value of De Vorm designs. We are not developing and producing a chair or a table just to sit on or at it. Designs by De Vorm are also made to enjoy their use and looks.

Low table by Nendo for Moroso

admin

In Milan this week Italian brand Moroso launches this set of low tables by Japanese designers Nendo, where a mirrored lower shelf reveals the patterned underside of the table top. Called Pond, the clusters of mirrored surfaces are each supported on three thin metal legs.

Pond illustrates the seductive mystery of an image reflected in a mirror. The idea of a pond as seen in the table’s round shape and in its inspiration which reveals the silence of Nature, the hush of the woods and the trees in bloom reflected inside it.

The table has a simple structure: three rods raise and separate two tabletops, one decorated and upside down, the other a mirror that expands the table’s height and depth. But the idea behind this design conceals a particularly fascinating design study.

In fact Pond embodies the dualism of right and reverses as a symbol of nature/earth (light and dark) and of reflected images (which reproduce but are also projected) within a reciprocal relationship involving an enigmatic vision of space and an aesthetic recreated in the decoration.

Available in painted steel, the Pond low table is the perfect addition to any interior.

Since 1952 MOROSO has been designing its sofas, armchairs and accessories with well-known designers such as Ron Arad, Carlo Colombo, Enrico Franzolini, Marc Newson, Toshiyuki Kita and Patricia Urquiola. MOROSO has been constructing its sofas and armchairs aiming at top quality.

Tea Table by Hanna Chung and Jeonghwa Seo

admin

For Europe people the Asian nations: Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, and Malaysian with typical cut of eyes and hard-to-pronounce names are perceived like the mysterious people from far East. They live far from us and the traditions they have are also very dissimilar. So, two Korean student from Holland Academy of design in Eindhoven, Hanna Chung and Jeonghwa Seo projected uncommon table for Chinese tea ceremony which they called Ripple Effect Tea Table.

Tea ceremony, Chinese philosophy and music, pacification and calmness in dzen style, meditation and relaxation, – all this from time immemorial was intended to calm down and pacify one’s soul, reach the harmony with yourself, clean yourself on both physical and emotional level. Water is that cleaning power about which Chinese never forget either, – remember the beautiful traditional fountains of China. In the base of conceptual table Ripple Effect Tea Table is also water.

The surface of water is covered with the thin layer of water which is closed in the flexible plastic cover like it is the water mattress. The water is not calm, – it means that either a cup or the saucer was put on the table and its surface covers with ripple like the lake in spring day and the rounds run from one edge to other… Process at which you can watch endlessly like on the burning fire or falling snow. It entertains you and calms you down.

The idea is simple till the banality but the project Ripple Effect Tea Table is curious but now it’s still a concept, exactly the graduating project of two talented authors.
